COVID-19 Swab Test in Malaysia
There are various types of tests used to detect the presence of COVID-19 in Malaysia. Rapid Test Kit (RTK-Antigen), and Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) can be used to diagnose COVID-19. RTK is quicker and more scalable, but PCR is usually more accurate. You can read more about it here.
It is compulsory for some individuals to undergo a COVID-19 PCR swab test, such as those working in healthcare, high-risk sectors, students attending university and overseas travellers. You can also order a swab test voluntarily to give you greater peace of mind.
Get a COVID-19 Test When:
You have been in close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case and remain asymptomatic or have experienced symptoms such as fever, cough and respiratory problems.
You are travelling abroad for work/holiday and require a pre-flight swab test before your departure.
You are continuing your studies at school/university, both locally or abroad and require COVID-19 testing
You are returning home to Malaysia or arriving in Malaysia and require a swab test before the end of your quarantine.

Top questions about COVID-19 Swab Test in Kota Kinabalu
What are your coverage areas?
We currently conduct in-home or in-office COVID-19 screenings in Klang Valley, Penang & Johor. Currently, we only offer in-home COVID-19 screenings for Kota Kinabalu & Kuching.
Are there any additional transportation charges?
Additional transportation charges are applicable for homes beyond 15km of the city of Kota Kinabalu.
How long does it take to get my test results?
Your results will be available to you within 12-24 hours (1 day).
Can I get my results within a shorter time frame?
We are able to furnish your results within 12 to 24 hours depending on a case-by-case basis including checking for close contact tracing and for those who will be undergoing surgery.
However, we would NOT be able to provide the results in time if you require your swab test results for these purposes:
- Flight departures under 24 hours from swab testing appointment
- Work-related matters for cross-city travelling/reporting back to the office
Who will be conducting the swab test?
All screenings are done by Homage Care Pros who have certification conducting test swabs prior to taking on the role.
I would like to get my kids tested. Do you have experienced swabbers for this?
All our Care Pros have experience swabbing children and it is done in a fuss-free and pleasant manner for them.
What do my results mean?
If you are negative of the virus, your results will state: “NOT DETECTED”.
If you are positive of the virus, your results will state: “DETECTED”. The CT value indicates the ‘amount of virus’ in your body and your risk of infecting others.

What happens if my COVID-19 swab test result is positive?
Our team will text or call you to inform you of the positive result and we will update our partner clinic and MOH. You must also update your health status on the MySejahtera app if you have one and a digital Home Surveillance Order (HSO) will be provided.
Do monitor for any COVID-19 symptoms, and stay at home to avoid contact with other people.
- If you are fully vaccinated and asymptomatic, you must remain in quarantine for 7 days.
- If you are unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated and symptomatic, you must remain in quarantine for 10 days.
This ensures you are doing your part to protect others from further infection, and to contain the spread. If you are showing serious symptoms, please contact your nearest District Health Office (PKD) immediately.
Isolate yourself, wear a mask and practise good hygiene. We also ask that you remain contactable at all times as the CAC Call Centre may require you to report to the nearest COVID-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) for further clinical evaluation. You may also be contacted through MySejahtera. Anyone who has been in contact with you in the last few days should also do an RT-PCR test and are required to remain in quarantine. The quarantine period set by the Ministry of Health for close contact individuals differ based on your vaccination status:

At this time, government-funded quarantine centres are reserved for those with severe symptoms but you may also choose to quarantine at a private quarantine at your own discretion.
Do inform your loved ones and if necessary, make arrangements for your children or elderly parents. You may consider hiring a part-time caregiver for your loved ones for the duration that you are expected to be away.
If you require additional assistance, you may also contact the CAC at 03-7723 9299 (8.00 a.m.-9.00 p.m. daily) or the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) Hotline 03-7723 9300 (8.00 a.m.-12.00 a.m. daily).
Do I need a second swab test after my quarantine?
You are advised to get a second swab test after your home quarantine to confirm your health status. Our friendly Care Advisor can arrange the 2nd swab test for you and your loved ones after you have completed the full period of home isolation.
