Care Pro Spotlight: Niu Soon Yen
Soon Yen, 27, is an Assistant Medical Officer who just embarked his journey as a Care Professional in Homage with the intention of making the most out of his spare time. Due to his passion and love for caregiving, Soon Yen doesn’t consider his encounters with the seniors to be typical, but rather an eye-opening and rewarding experience for him as a healthcare worker.

Why did you join Homage?
I joined Homage because I enjoy caring for people. It aligns with my career as an Assistant Medical Officer where I get to serve the community while earning money. My day-offs are likely spent taking care of people or giving back to society as it is my escape and Homage gives me the room to do exactly that now!
Unlike any other caregiving jobs, taking visits with Homage gives us the opportunity to focus on getting to know and interacting with the senior fully to be Care Recipient’s best advocates. The thought of providing a solution to someone’s problem is what motivates me to go above and beyond. Hence, I make an effort to maintain a good work ethic which allows me to instill the same optimism in those who are in dire need of it.
How has your journey as a Care Professional with Homage been?
I was a little nervous on my first visit because this is my first time going to someone’s house for home care as I had previously only worked in hospitals. I have met the most incredible individuals thus far, and I immediately know that these people will be with me for the rest of my life since they somehow remind me of my parents back in Kelantan. I treat them as if they were my own family members and my main goal as a Homage Care Pro is to treat and serve the seniors with dignity at the comfort of their own homes.
Homage is just the ideal platform for every healthcare provider to build up their confidence. As a healthcare professional, my experience at Homage has been both eye-opening and humbling!

How has Homage helped you to maximize your income?
For most people, the act of helping others brings about a tremendous amount of personal delight and satisfaction, which cannot be equaled by any material possessions. In my perspective, Homage provides me with a fantastic opportunity to help others while also expanding my financial resources.
How do you balance your full time job whilst working as a caregiver with Homage? What keeps you going?
The answer will be – “I love this job”. Balancing between my full-time job and being a Homage Care Pro is not easy but the smile that pops up after I take care of them makes it all worth it.

What is the most impactful or memorable experience you had taking care of a Care Recipient?
My very first CR greeted me with a warm welcome. The visit reminded me of my parents and made me realize how meaningful and eye-opening this job is for me. I had a good time talking to them, understanding them while also taking care of them. They even requested me to spend an extra hour since they valued my company, which made me realize how much my work touched the family.
I also went the extra mile for another CR to help her with her interstate travelling documents. It was a simple help but looking at how the CR’s face lit up, it gave me immense contentment to be able to help and great motivation to keep going.
What was the most fulfilling part about being a Care Professional?
The most fulfilling aspect of my work is actually not how much I give, but how at the end of the day, I am on the receiving end just by seeing the smiles on the CRs faces or hearing ‘thank you’ from the patient and family. They bring me so much joy and it’s the best feeling and reward in the world. I am so proud of being a Care Pro for Homage!
