Meet Asha!

Asha, an assistant nurse, dreams to touch as many lives as she can. She gets along well with her patients and is adored by all of them. Complaints, concerns, illness, stress, yelling, crying, anger, frustration – none of it seemed to faze Asha. She treated the first person in line the same way she treated the last: with dignity, care and compassion.
What has kept you going as a healthcare worker throughout 2022? Was there any major fallout that happened that made you want to give up? If yes, how did you handle it?
One of the most rewarding aspects of a career in healthcare is the ability to connect with our patients on such an intimate level. While we often meet under very difficult circumstances—being present as people face serious health challenges or injuries, witnessing the moment of birth or the end of life, we get to know our patients quickly and have the opportunity to play an important role in their lives.
I became an assistant nurse so that I could have an impact on the lives of others and have a career that felt very meaningful. I believe that at the end of the day, no matter how challenging, I have impacted someone’s life for the better.
It can seem like a thankless job at times. Then something comes along to remind you why you get up in the morning and do it in the first place. Caregiving isn’t just about the technical help we can provide; it’s about the compassion we show serving as a patient’s advocate in any way we can.
I’ll never forget how it felt to see such a difference in someone’s life knowing I was part of it. It’s moments like these that make me proud to be a healthcare worker. – Care Pro Asha
What was your biggest lesson of your journey with Homage in 2022?
I’ve learned that nursing is a way of life. It requires compassion, determination, an open heart, and an open mind. Nursing has taught me how to think critically and how to communicate with patients, families, and coworkers. It has taught me about myself. And I’ve learned that, even off of the clock, you are still a nurse.
If there’s one thing that this job teaches you, it’s that your inner strength is much stronger than you believe it to be. The days are so fast-paced that you sometimes don’t realize everything you’ve done. It takes a very strong person to do this every day. And even though you may feel like breaking down at times, it’s your inner strength that keeps you going and it should not be overlooked.
What is your new year resolution as a healthcare provider in 2023?
If there is one resolution every health professional should make and keep, it’s to reduce their stress levels. Your job is demanding. Home life may be demanding as well. There’s many methods to manage stress —- exercise, aromatherapy, counseling, and possibly medication.
Aside from that, I’m continuing to study to become a registered nurse. My goal is to complete my education in 2023 so that I can work as a nurse, which is my life’s passion. I will fulfil my lifelong desire of doing this.
What is your hope for the healthcare industry in 2023?
My hope for 2023 is for the industry to improve the aging experience by elevating the caregiving profession like Homage. After joining Homage, I realize the vast majority of older adults prefer to age at home, but many don’t have this choice. A key driver of lack of choice is the global shortage of trained, care professionals who can provide the high quality home care our older citizens need.
Building a robust, thriving workforce of professional caregivers is vital not just to better protect older adults from health threats, but to also meet the needs of our rapidly aging global society. Such a platform like Homage can satisfy the demands and desires of older people to age at home; provide peace of mind to family members and friends who want high quality care for their loved ones; and ensure a dynamic continuum of care for individuals everywhere.
