Netflix has been in Malaysia for more than 5 years and by the end of 2020 Netflix took the 3rd spot in the most consumed media content in the country. As more Malaysian are enjoying the streaming service, here’s a quick list of Netflix shows for your senior loved ones to enjoy in Malaysia:

The Kominsky Method

This comedy-drama follows Sandy Kominsky (Michael Douglas), a used-to-be-famous actor turned acting coach navigating his golden years in Hollywood. Alongside his agent Norman Newlander (Alan Arkin), the two veterans face new challenges in their later years with a lot of laughs and a few tears along the way.

David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet

Released in 2020, David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet is a must-watch documentary on Netflix. Best known for his broadcasting work surrounding the natural world and environmental causes, Sir David Attenborough walks you through his life experiences, the history of life on earth and what he hopes for in the future. Perfect for seniors with an appreciation for nature or wildlife!

Headspace: Guide to Meditation

Andy Puddicombe, a former Buddhist monk and the co-founder of the meditation app Headspace takes you through 8 animated episodes looking at the history and science behind meditation and helps you and your loved ones get started with meditation at home. The guided meditation episodes focus on topics such as how to get started, letting go of anger and frustration and achieving limitless potential.

Studies have also shown that mindful meditation and exercise can improve the functioning of an ageing brain. If your senior loved one enjoys meditation or is interested in getting started, this recently released Netflix series should be on the top of their watchlist.

The Last Laugh

The 2019 film, The Last Laugh tells the story of Al Hart, a retired talent manager reconnecting with his former client, Buddy (Richard Dreyfuss), a retired comedian who left the spotlight decades ago. Al convinces Buddy to go on the road again for one last comedy tour. This easy-going film will certainly get you a few laughs with your loved ones.

Coronavirus: Explained

If you’re interested in educating your family on the coronavirus, this limited docu-series produced by Vox takes us through the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and the global spread of the virus. The 3-episode documentary also focuses on the vaccine race and how we can better cope with the stress of the pandemic and lockdown for years to come.

Grace & Frankie

After Grace and Frankie’s husbands left them for each other, the two frenemies bond over their similar fate. Starring big names such as Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin & Martin Sheen, this witty and heartwarming series has entertained viewers for 6 seasons since 2015. Ending after its’ 7th season, you and your senior loved ones have time to catch up before the final season which is estimated to be released in January 2022.


Lupin, another Netflix series must-watch, follows the French thief and master of disguise, Assane Diop, on his thieving adventures and mission to avenge the injustice faced by his late father in the hands of a wealthy family. 

Binge-watched by over 70 million households in its first 28 days, Lupin holds the record for most-watched non-English series on Netflix and beats other Netflix record-breaking series such as The Queen’s Gambit.

The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals

This reality series is perfect for those looking for travel inspiration after staying put due to the pandemic. The 3 hosts, Luis D. Ortiz (of Million Dollar Listing New York), Megan Batoon and Jo Franco travel places like Bali, Mexico City and Hawaii to stay at the best vacation rental spots that fit every budget. 

While we aren’t able to travel just yet, this inspiring and insightful series allows you and your loved ones to travel the world right at home. Moreover, it may also help you to plan for the first family vacation after the pandemic.
