Surviving Cancer Together with Mr Sunny & Ms Theresa

Theresa and Sunny talk about their experience battling cancer as a couple and share some advice to those who may be going through their own cancer diagnosis.

In 2020, there were 48,639 new cancer diagnoses in Malaysia. Receiving a cancer diagnosis can be an overwhelming and harrowing experience but it does not have to be.

For Theresa and Sunny, their cancer diagnoses came as a huge shock. After being diagnosed with ovarian and uterine cancer in 2009, Theresa was at a loss for words to hear that her husband, Sunny was also diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer in 2016.
In this episode of the Homage Web Series, -Theresa and Sunny talk about their experience battling cancer as a couple and share some advice to those who may be going through their own cancer diagnosis. The couple, who has been married for 33 years, also talks about how friends and family can better support their loved ones after they have been diagnosed.

Both of them are now in remission and living with their daughter and 3 dogs.

Terminology:

Chemotherapy: A form of powerful drug treatment to destroy cancer cells.

Hormone Replacement Therapy: Hormone Replacement Therapy or HRT is used to treat the symptoms of menopause, commonly experienced by middle-aged women.

Morphine: Morphine is an opioid medication or a strong painkiller used to treat severe pain

Celebrex: Celebrex is the brand name for the medication called Celecoxib which treats inflammation and is commonly used for patients with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, menstrual cramps and severe pain.
