Care Pro Spotlight: Stacie Hooi Ming
The Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival, is one of the most important holidays in the Chinese cultural calendar.
For Chinese families or those who are celebrating it, it is the time of the year to paint the town red with lanterns and decorations, offer sacrifices to ancestors, have reunion meals with family and friends, and of course the most exciting part (read: for the kids) – receiving Ang Pao or red packets!
This year around as the restriction has eased and families are allowed to gather with proper SOPs in place, many are delighted to finally get to travel back to their respective hometowns to celebrate Chinese New Year and catching up with close relatives after skipping it last year in 2021.
As for Care Pro Stacie, she chooses to spend most of her Chinese New Year week with the seniors at Homage by providing them with door-to-door home care services!
CP Stacie describes Chinese New Year as a time of family reunions and re-connection. While many things may still be restricted this year, there’s one thing that’s not: a culture of caring and appreciation.
Growing up, CP Stacie has always enjoyed spending quality time with her family during the festive season, and now that she works as a Registered Nurse, she has developed a passion in providing professional care to others and it only seems right for her to ensure that no elders are left behind. She acknowledged that, while most of us associate the holiday season with joyful gatherings, families with elderly members may find the occasion difficult to cope with. As a result, she wants to guarantee that her regular Care Recipients, who rely on a Care Professional to perform nursing procedures and personal hygiene chores, are adequately taken care of over the holiday season.
While others plan for their holiday agendas, CP Stacie diligently schedules her hospital shift around Chinese New Year so that she could alternate between her full-time job in the Oncology Ward in the morning, caring for elders with Homage after, and not forgetting her tradition of reunion dinner at home with her family.
Inspired and intrigued by Stacie’s passion in serving others around her, she opens up about how her family has been her backbone, rooting for her in her career since day one. They have always understood her role and never made a big deal about her working over the important festive season because they believe that there is no greater gift during Chinese New Year than to share the love and joy with others. This form of support from her family, accompanied with the work satisfaction she derives from making her Care Recipients happy, has motivated her to go above and beyond every time. Regardless of the season, her ultimate goal and focus is to ensure care is being provided for those elderlies and families in need, and that the holiday joy and warmth are shared evenly.
