Care Pro Spotlight: Jacqueline Antony
Prior to joining Homage, Jacqueline has committed 11 years of her working life at a hospital before making the decision to leave to focus on the upbringing of her 3 young boys.
After years of looking for better career opportunities that could complement her way of life, she finally came across Homage which has enabled her to pursue her passion while maintaining a work-life balance.
Jacqueline shared that discovering and being a part of Homage has been very life-changing. Not only has Homage allowed her in pursuing her interest, but it has also benefited her in improving her income so that she can help sustain her mother for her expenditures, something she was unable to do prior to her resignation and has more funds to save for emergencies at the same time.
Homage has significantly increased my income since I can now set aside money for my own personal needs, provide money to my mother for her expenditures, which I was unable to do after my resignation, and save for the future.

How is your overall experience working at Homage?
Homage has allowed me to spend ample time with my children while still allowing me to work at any time that is convenient for me. On top of that, I am doing what I enjoy while also giving back to society, which is precisely what I am searching for.
Throughout my time with Homage, I’ve encountered a wide range of people, but the support I’ve received from the organisation has been really helpful to my growth. I’m thrilled to be a Care Professional at Homage!
What inspired or motivated you to be a Care Professional?
Seeing the results of my hard work and care has always been gratifying and it keeps me going. Their progress, whether physical, mental, or emotional journey makes it all worthwhile and inspires me as a caregiver. At the end of the day, all I want to see is their happy faces.
Caring for seniors may be tough at times since they sometimes refuse to listen or follow advice, but patience, professionalism, and compassion for the work have helped motivate me to take this path as a caregiver.
How has working with Homage shaped your professional or personal journey as a Care Professional?
I have experienced caring for seniors because I previously worked in the healthcare sector before resigning in 2013. After some time, I realized that I wanted to work again to help patients with their needs, however my commitment towards my family and 3 young boys does not allow me to take on a full time role. Not till I come across Homage which has provided an excellent platform for me to rediscover my passion and profession, and more importantly flexibility in hours. I am delighted to be a part of it!
Was there a time where you went the extra mile to care for a Care Recipient?
I have a Care Recipient who is quite particular and was craving for Soon kueh (steamed dumpling in Teochew cuisine). Because it is difficult to find Soon Kueh in his area, I informed his daughter that I would bring him the food from my house the next morning when I paid him a visit. It’s nice to see joyful faces after that, and I’d do it all over again.
What was your proudest moment as a Care Professional?
I have encountered a Care Recipient who had severe prostate cancer, various chronic diseases, and was in a lot of pain and despair. He was depressed and miserable all the time, and I did everything I could to help him feel better. With constant guidance and compassion, he was able to open up, trust my care, and eventually recover. I succeeded in diverting his focus and he is now cheerful and no longer mentions death.
What is the most impactful or memorable experience you had taking care of a Care Recipient?
I aided a Care Recipient with her activities of daily living, ryles tube feeding, and repairing the leg traction after she was discharged from the hospital. She was unconscious, unable to talk, and bedridden, but her son’s sweet remarks and appreciation for me were astounding.
He said,
You are an Angel sent by God to help and assist him in his hardships.
I will remember it for the rest of my life.
